Herbert Hodge

Herbert Lee Hodge, 97, of Charlevoix, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 8, 2022 at the American House in Charlevoix.  He was born on June 2, 1924, in Snover, MI, the son of Ward and Gladys (Russell) Hodge.

Herbert was raised on a small family farm in Snover, Michigan. He graduated from Marlette High School and went on to attend Michigan State University for several semesters.  Over the years, he was employed at Farm Co-ops including Snover, Scottville, Traverse City and Charlevoix.  He retired from AMOCO where he worked as a parts manager, a job he very much enjoyed.

Herbert spent his free time enjoying everything that northern Michigan had to offer.  Many fond memories were made at the family cottage on Lake Charlevoix.  He also liked to fish, hunt deer, and enjoyed woodworking.  He loved to travel with his wife, especially trips to Alaska and Canada.

On April 18, 1953, in Marlette, Michigan, he married Laurita (Ross) Hodge who survives.  Also surviving are his five children, Bruce Hodge of Boyne Falls, MI Mike (Terri) Hodge of Petoskey, MI, Rex (Juanita) Hodge of Zeeland, MI, Sandra (Paul) Sondgerath of South Haven, MI, and Sue (Mike) Kiteley of Charlevoix, MI; his brother, Robert (Karen) Hodge of Springfield, MO; 10 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Ward Hodge Jr., Richard Hodge, and Stuart Hodge; and two sisters, Jean Pomnichowski and Mary Sue Becker.
