HENRY R. DEATER, 82, of Mancelona, died on June 7, 2010 at Munson Medical Center. Henry was born on May 26, 1928 in Kalkaska, the son of William and Grace (Rice) Deater. Henry was employed as a bus driver for greyhound for many years, served in the U.S. Coast Guard and Merchant Marines during World War II and was a long time member of the Kalkaska VFW Post # 8684 as well as the Mancelona Moose Lodge #2254. He was a member of the Mancelona Church of the Nazarene and enjoyed fishing, hunting, going to garage sales, collecting antiques and playing shuffleboard. On May 8, 1954 in Pontiac, MI., he married Geraldine Conway who survives. Also surviving are a son Dirk Deater of Mancelona, 2 grandchildren, William and Jennifer Deater, 3 great-grandchildren, Alexis, Abby and Austin Deater, 2 brothers, Earl Deater of Skagway, AK., Lou Deater of Philadelphia, PA., and a sister Mildred Foote of Daurte, CA. Preceding him in death were a brother Clifford Deater, a sister Elizabeth Lytle and his parents. Funeral services will take place on Thursday, June 10 at 11:00 a.m. at the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Pastor Ross Corne will officiate. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Kalkaska. Visitation will be Wed. from 6-8 p.m. also at the funeral home.
