Henry D Cannon, 92 of Torch Lake, MI and Carefree, AZ, died peacefully Wednesday November 28, 2018 at Charlevoix Area Hospital. He was born August 24, 1926 in Detroit, the son of Henry and Agnes (Justice) Cannon.
Henry was very active in sports and graduated in 1944 from Cooley High School. He joined the US Navy Air Corps and proudly served until 1946. Henry graduated from Eastern Michigan University in 1952 continuing his education at the University of Michigan earning 2 graduate degrees. He went on to teach, coach and counsel at Livonia Bentley High School retiring after 34 years of dedicated service.
After retirement Hank volunteered at East Jordan High School in the track and cross-country programs. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching all Michigan and Detroit sports. He also enjoyed over 70 years of Torch Lake benefits, especially his daily dips. Hank was funny, loyal and supportive to all those he knew.
On June 23, 1951 in Minneapolis, MN he married Barbara Williams who survives. Also surviving is his sister Nancy Cameron of Howell, his nephews and nieces; Bradley (Bridget), Matthew, Megan Brownell of Plymouth, Bethany (Kirt) Alex, Jack, Max Radzville of Howell, sister in law Joyce Cameron, nephew Duncan Cameron and family, Tom (Patty) Snarey, Tommy Snarey Jr. and family, Dennis Snarey, Terri (Jim) Gislason and family, Sandi (Ben) Bruns, and Patti (Kirk) Jaeger and family. Henry is preceded in death by his parents, sister Betty Cannon and brother Duncan Cameron.
Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Torch Lake Township, spring of 2019. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to Hospice of Northwest Michigan 220 W. Garfield Ave, Charlevoix, MI 49720, www.hospicenwm.org.
