Helen Schorfhaar

Helen Hopwood Schorfhaar passed away on August 10, 2009 at Antrim County Meadowbrook Medical Care Facility at the age of 103. Helen was born in Nairn, Scotland on December 14, 1905. Since the late 1920s she made her home in the United States, first in Cleveland, Ohio where she met and married Henry Schorfhaar an immigrant from Holland. They subsequently lived and farmed in Mikado, Michigan until Henry's death in 1976. From 1976 until 2001 she lived with her sister Betty McKoone in McIntosh, Florida. After Betty's death she returned to Michigan, first living with her son Alan Schorfhaar in Coldwater, Michigan until 2006. Since 2006 she resided at Meadowbrook Medical Care Facility in Bellaire, Michigan where she won the hearts of other residents and staff. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, and three sisters. She is succeeded by four sons, Alan Schorfhaar, Coldwater, Michigan, Donald Schorfhaar, Cheboygon, Michigan, Richard Schorfhaar, Bellaire, Michigan, and Ernest Schorfhaar, Mikado, Michigan, and one daughter, Janice Schorfhaar Garl, Ocala, Florida. Helen was grandmother to 13 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. Memorial services will be held Sat. Aug. 22, 2009 at Eleven a.m. at Church in the Hills, Bellaire with Pastor Andrew Pomerville officiating. Interment will take place on Sunday.
