Helen Nothstine

Helen Marcile Nothstine, 83, of Mancelona, passed away on Friday August 30, 2019 at Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility in Bellaire, MI.  She was born on January 13, 1936 in Vanwert, OH, the daughter of Clark and Ruth (Davis) Reichard.

Helen loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She was an incredible artist who was able to create anything she could put her mind to.  She liked to sing, decorate cakes, and enjoyed her years of selling Avon products.  As written in one of her many notes, “I have had several wonderful moments in my life:”  Among those, she listed, her wedding day – June  5, 1954 – , the birth of her three children, working at Mancelona Public Schools for 29 years, travelling to Rome and Italy to sing at the cathedrals, and attending the Dedication of the World War II Memorial in Washington D.C.  She was a delight to know, and will be dearly missed.

Helen is survived by her daughter, Katherine Bennett of Mancelona; three grandchildren, Nicole (Joseph) Johnston of Mancelona, Helen (Archie) Spires of Mancelona, and Joshua (Niki) Harris of Dewitt, MI; a sister, Donna Smith of Houston, TX; and nine great grandchildren, Trinity, Alexander, Keira, Joey, Justin, Weslee, Austin, Kaylee, and Zoie.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Herbert Nothstine; and two sons, Daniel Nothstine, and Robert Nothstine.

Visitation will take place on Sunday September 8, 2019 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.  Funeral Services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Monday September 9, 2019 also at the Mancelona Chapel, with burial to follow at Fairview Cemetery in Mancelona.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Helen's family.
