Helen McGrath

Helen Margaret McGrath, 88, of Mancelona, passed away on June 20, 2019 at her daughters home surrounded by those whom she loved most.  She was born on December 8, 1930 in Monongahela, PA, the daughter of John and Naomi (Williams) Bryson.

Helen married her high school sweetheart, Otto McGrath, on April 5, 1951 in Detroit, MI.  They raised their family together in Taylor, MI before moving north to retire in Mancelona.  She was a strong-willed woman who would always stand her ground.  She first loved her family.  She also enjoyed gardening, birdwatching – particularly hummingbirds – and an occasional trip to the casino.

She is survived by two children, June McGrath of Mancelona, and Alen (Debbie) McGrath of Taylor, MI; two sisters, Blanch Byrde of Adrian,  MI, and Ruth Martin of Woodland, CA; four grandchildren, Joseph (Nicole) Johnston, Jennifer Griffore, Christina (Dan) Killgore, and Rick (Sam) McGrath; and several great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a brother; and four sisters.

No services are planned at this time.

A private burial will take place later this summer at Forest Township Cemetery in Tower, MI.
