Helen M. Gorham, 94, formerly of Bellaire, died Sunday, May 3, 2009 at the Umpqua Nursing Home in Roseburg, Oregon. Born Dec. 27, 1914, in Bellaire, she was the daughter of Floyd and Grace (Pickard) Mosher. On Sept. 1, 1935, in Bellaire, she married Lawrence C. Gorham who died in 1989. Helen attended Bellaire High School for three years and graduated from Eastern High School in Detroit. She then attended and graduated from Derma-Way Beauty School where she also taught. Her husband's work had them living on the Mojave Desert where Helen was a kindergarten aide, president of the Girl Scout Council of Indian Wells, and had memberships in the Episcopal Church and the Federated Women's Club. Upon returning to Detroit, she worked for 14 years as a teller for National Bank of Detroit. Helen and Larry moved back to Bellaire in 1969 where they owned and operated Gorham's Antiques from 1973 to 1992. She was also an antique appraiser for many years. She was a member of the Bellaire Community United Methodist Church. Helen was also a past member of the United Methodist Women and the Bellaire Ladies Literary Club. Helen is survived by her daughter Patricia Glass of Roseburg, OR and three nieces. Preceding her in death along with her husband, were her parents, a brother Hugh Mosher, and her son-in-law Robert Glass. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 18, 2009 at the Bellaire Community United Methodist Church with Pastor Mary Brown officiating. Cremains burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Bellaire. Memorials may be directed to the Bellaire Food Bank or a food bank of ones choice.
