Helen Gaskin

Helen K. Gaskin, age 90, died on Saturday, March 3, 2018 in the loving surroundings of Grandview Medical Care Facility in East Jordan, MI. She was born on July 4, 1927 in Charlevoix, MI. to James and Myrtle (Reinhart) Gaskin and was the second of four children.

Helen graduated from Chicago Public Schools and received medical training at Reese Hospital in Chicago, IL. as Radiologist. Helen joined the Glenmary Sisters with her best friend Patricia McKenna and spent several years in service in the Appalachian Mountains. Helen settled in Detroit, MI and served as Radiologist and instructor at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. Helen spent a lifetime exploring creative endeavors including photography and jewelry making.

Helen was proceeded in death by her brothers John and Richard Gaskin. Helen will be remembered for her adventurous, creative spirit, and her fearless honesty. She is survived by Brother, Peter (Charlene Novotny) Gaskin, Nephew, James W. Gaskin and Great Nephew, Aidan Gaskin.

Funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at St. Mary Catholic Church with Fr. Peter Wigton officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 9, 2018 at the Winchester Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.

The Gaskin family would like to extend our gratitude to all the staff of Grandview Medical Care Facility for their attentiveness and loving care. Memorials may be made in Helen’s name to St. Mary’s Catholic School or Grandview Medical Care Facility.
