Helen Nuttall Brown passed away peacefully June 13, 2018 at the home of her daughter the Honorable Helen E. Brown. She was born in Detroit MI on November 22, 1920, the fifth child of Susie and Dr. Harry M. Nuttall. Educated in Detroit public schools she received a Bachelors degree and Masters in Education from Wayne State University. Mrs. Brown was a revered teacher at the Brady Elementary School for most of her 30 year career. She is well known for her passions: supporting local artists, breeding poodles, and her tireless efforts for civil rights.
She was a founding President of the 3 L block club ( Longfellow, Linwood and LaSalle, a member of the Historic Boston- Edison Association and Delta Sigma Theta sorority
Mrs. Brown is predeceased by her husband Russell S. Brown, Jr., brothers Sgt. Dalton Nuttall, and Willie Nuttall.; sisters Lucile Malone, Naola Rahman and Bernice Thomas; nephews Billy Nuttall, Gary Nuttall, Harry Nuttall, and Habib David Rahman and niece Sylvia Nuttall.
She is survived by her children Judge Helen E. Brown and Russell S. Brown III.; grandchildren Aria Jackson Dammons, Russell C. Brown IV, Julian Brown and Jennifer Martin Juvenelle, a niece June Thomas, nephews Joseph Nuttall Brown, and LeeRoy Nuttall; numerous great grandchildren, great nieces and nephews, and cousins.
