Hazel Koutnik

Hazel Marie Koutnik, of Bellaire, passed away peacefully at Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility on Wed. April 15, 2009. She was born to Pearl and Oscar Teboe, June 28, 1921. She was the ninth child of eleven. She grew up in East Jordan area where she met Leslie O'Dell, her future husband. They were married on October 12, 1940. From this union, they had 3 children; Gary, Judy, and Susan. They made their home in Bellaire. Leslie was killed in an accident on Feb. 18, 1953. After she lost her husband, she worked for Dr. John Rodgers and his wife as their housekeeper for many years. Hazel later married Jerry A. Koutnik Jr. on Dec. 21, 1963. Hazel enjoyed gardening, quilting, and cooking. But most of all, she loved babysitting her grandchildren. She would say she always had a lap and a smile for her "babies". Hazel lost her second husband on Oct. 1, 1996 from cancer. She is survived by her son Gary O'Dell of MT, Judy (Gary) Geary of El Paso, TX, and Susan (Michael) McMillen of Ft. Myers Beach, FL, 7 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and 2 sisters Anna Smith of Bellaire and Beatrice Baker of Boyne Falls. There will be a memorial service at a later date.
