Hazel J. (Maurer) Barnes, 79, of Vanderbilt, formerly of Central Lake, passed away on March 5, 2014 at her home. Hazel was born on May 27, 1934, in Alba, the daughter of Fred and Mary (Williams) Watros. Hazel was a Central Lake resident for many years prior to moving to Vanderbilt in 2011. While living in Central Lake, she was a long time member of the Lighthouse Pentecostal Church. She was a wonderful person who enjoyed being surrounded by her family. Her life was her family and was "Mother Hen" to many over the years. Hazel had a huge heart and would help anyone in need. On April 16, 2011, in Central Lake, she married Floyd Barnes who survives. Also surviving are 7 children, Susan (Dave) Smith of Bellaire, Paul (Linda) Miller of Clarksville, IN, Diane Miller of Mancelona, Barb (Leon) Evans of East Jordan, Linda Organic of North Carolina, Jeff (Tammy) Miller of Central Lake, Randy (Lenny) Miller of East Jordan, a brother Charles (Sarah) Watros of Ellsworth, many grandchildren, several great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son Tony Miller, husband Larry Maurer, 2 granddaughters, Candice Shelton, Mary Ann Evans as well as her parents. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, March 12, at 2:00 p.m. at the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Rev. Mark Belanger will officiate. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. also at the funeral home. Interment will take place in Southern Cemetery, Central Lake Township in the spring.
