Harry Schepperley

Harry Schepperley, 88, of Mancelona, died peacefully, Feb. 12, 2015 at Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility. He was born Nov. 6, 1926, the son of Jim and Verna (Bonner) Schepperley. Buster, the name he was best known by, had many changes in the years of 1944 and 1945. He graduated from Mancelona High School and then was drafted into the Army. Harry completed basic training in Fort Worth, TX. He was part of the 25th reconnaissance division, stationed in the Philippines and Japan. However, before leaving this country, he came home and married the love of his life, Marian Scholl, on June 27, 1945. Harry and Marian resided in Mancelona for 62 years. Buster and Marian built their own home and this is where they lived most of those years, raising their 3 children. Buster was exceptional when it came to any part of construction. It was something he learned from his dad. He was a great example of how a husband, father, and grandpa, should be. He certainly had a green thumb when it came to his gardening skills. Fun filled family time was spent hunting, boating, fishing and telling exaggerated stories. Buster worked 42 years at the same factory, which had a few different names, but the last of which is now called Dura. He was really happy when he retired from there in 1988. Harry and Marian purchased a cabin on Trout Lake in the U.P. They spent 8 wonderful years up there, enjoying the beauty of nature, that you can experience living on the lake. Due to poor health, they moved back to Mancelona for another 2 years but illness forced another move to the Village Apartments in Bellaire. From there they moved to Meadow Brook where they were able to spend their last days together. Buster will always be loved and missed by those that survive him; his wife Marian, 2 daughters Gloria Straight and Barbara (Kelly) Dolloway, son Terry (Lisa) LaBeau, 2 sisters in law Gerry and Sonja and brother in law Chester Romanick. He was also an exceptional Grandpa to many grandchildren and great-grandchildren and will be missed by many nieces and nephews too. Harry was proceded in death by his mother and father, his only sister Elsie, brothers Clare, Charles, Arlie, Gordon (Betty), and Donald (Thelma). Funeral services will take place Mon. Feb. 16, at 11 a.m. at the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes with Pastor Dan Grimes officiating. The family will receive friends Sun. Feb. 15, from 4 to 6 p.m. also at the funeral home. Interment will take place this spring in Fairview Cemetery, Mancelona. Memorial donations may be directed to Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility for a new retractable awning at Glacier Hill housing. Please sign his online guestbook www.mortensenfuneralhomes.com.
