Harold Kruse

Harold E. Kruse Jr, 92 of Eastport passed away Saturday, December 17, 2016. He was born March 9, 1924 in Detroit, the son of Harold E. Sr. and Mabel (Taube) Kruse. On April 19, 1947, he married Naomi Dahnke and in 1960 they moved their family north and settled in Eastport to run the family business, Kruse's Market. In the early 1970's Harold went to work for the postal service serving as the postmaster of Eastport for over 30 years. Harold was dedicated to the Lord. His love of the Lord led him to become a minister, serving at several churches for over 50 years. He was involved at the East Jordan Lutheran Church, The Calvary Lutheran Church in Elk Rapids, the Ironton Congregational Church, Beaver Island Community Church, and the First Congregational Church of Central Lake. Harold proudly served in WWII. He was a founding member of the Torch Lake Ambulance and spent countless hours helping those in need. He was also member of Upper Torch Lake Association. Surviving Harold is his wife of 69 years; his children Harold Kruse of Columbus, OH, Ruth (Jim) Allen of Eastport, Judy (Mike) Ager of Canton, MI, Cliff (Cathie) Kruse, of Sequim, WA, Ken (Cathy) Kruse of Central Lake, Bill Kruse of Eastport, Rick (Sharon) Kruse of Ann Arbor; sister Lorraine Knuth of Kalamazoo, brother Don (Nancy) Kruse of OR, 15 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and numerous others close to his family that he held dear to his heart. Preceding him in death were his grandson Matt Kruse, daughter in law Sandy Kruse, sister Eileen Gill, brother Neil Kruse, and brother- in-law Max Knuth. There will be a celebration of life service at a later date. Arrangements have been handled by the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
