Guy Barber

Guy A. Barber, 91, of Mancelona and Alden, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2013 surrounded by his family at Munson Medical Center. Guy was born October 18, 1921 in Rapid City, the son of Merle and Carrie (Sattler) Barber. Guy graduated from Alden High School in 1939. After school he was a Private first class in the Army and served as a messenger in WWII in France and Germany. He was a member at the Alden United Methodist Church since childhood. Guy proudly served as the Fire Chief of Helena Township Fire Department. He worked for Super Tool in Elk Rapids and then was self employed as an excavation business. He is survived by 5 children, William (Frances) Barber of Alden, Jane "Sue" (jerry) Roth of Mancelona, Kenneth (Cynthia) Barber of Rapid City, Kathryn (Patrick) Fryer of Ossineke and Robert (Christy) Barber of Upper Peninsula; brother, Leo (Ella Mae) Barber; sisters, Leda Miller and Erma Deater all of Rapid City; 24 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marijane in 1999; two sons, David and Rodger Barber; granddaughter, Laura Barber; a great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Roth; 2 brothers and 5 sisters. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at the Alden United Methodist Church with Pastor Daniel Biteman officiating.
