Gretchen A. Kantzer, 73, of Bellaire, passed away on December 16, 2015 at her home. Gretchen was born on August 16, 1942, in Kansas City, MO, the daughter of Frank and Marjorie (VanStone) Detwiler. Gretchen was a resident of Bellaire for the past 3 years where she moved from Cass County, IN. While living in Indiana, she owned and operated Tate's Orchard/Apple Dumpling Inn in Peru. She spent many summers on Beaver Island. She enjoyed horses, art, reading, walking, dogs, and was a life-long learner. She loved science and taught herself about plant anatomy, string theory and black holes. She loved her grandchildren very much and enjoyed, more than anything, helping care for them. She is survived by 4 children, Anna (Michael) Wildermuth of Lafayette, IN, Nicholas (Jessica) Kantzer of Rochester, IN, Brian (Carolyn) Mikesell of Macy, IN, Elizabeth Kantzer (Wally Disbrow) of Central Lake, a sister Christine (Larry) Lynch of Robins, IA, 9 grandchildren, Jessica and Marissa Kantzer, Andrew, Madeleine and Isabella Wildermuth, Maxwell and Vivian Disbrow and Paul and William Mikesell, and one great-granddaughter Annestasia Jackson. She was preceded in death by her husband Sherman Kantzer in 2015, a son Eric Kantzer as well as her parents. No services are planned at this time.
