Gregory Van Stedum

Gregory A. Van Stedum, 36, of Charlevoix passed away on April 14, 2018 at McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital.

Gregory was born on June 6, 1981 in Charlevoix to Tom and Sandy (Powers) Van Stedum.

Everyone that knew Greg loved him. He had a zest for life, and his huge smile and sparkling eyes were contagious. The light of his life was his daughter, Violet Lottie. Greg adored his wife, and their love was a real-life fairy tale.

His family and friends meant the world to him. He faced many health challenges throughout his life, but he was unwavering in his commitment to his faith in the lord.

He was a military history buff and was very patriotic. He enjoyed spending his time cooking, playing cards, airsofting, deer hunting, and having family outings in the backyard.

On July 19, 2014 in Charlevoix Gregory married Emily Hughes who survives. He is also survived by his beautiful daughter, Violet Lottie Van Stedum; parents Tom and Sandy Van Stedum of Ellsworth; brother, Adam Van Stedum of Ellsworth; paternal grandmother, Theresa Van Stedum of Ellsworth; maternal grandmother, Jean Powers of Ellsworth; father and mother-in-law, Gregory and Laurie Hughes; 2 brothers-in-law, Ian Hughes and Jason Hughes both of Traverse City and sister-in-law, Michelle (Tracy) Reich of Charlevoix, along with many aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by both his maternal and paternal grandpa’s, Herbert Powers “Puppa” and Fred VanStedum.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 21 at 4:00 p.m. at the Center Point Assembly Church, 05291 M 66 N., Charlevoix, MI,  49720.  Pastor Janie Beasley will officiate. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 20, from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Winchester Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.

Interment will take place at a future date in Brookside Cemetery, Charlevoix.

In lieu of flowers Greg's family has asked that memorial contributions be made to the Violet and Emily VanStedum Fund through the Charlevoix State Bank.
