GREGORY JAMES JAHNKE

October 12,1963 – June 16,2024

In the evening on Father’s Day June 16, 2024, Greg Jahnke passed away peacefully at Mclaren Hospital in Petoskey MI, surrounded by family and love. Greg was diagnosed with terminal metastatic lung cancer in 2022, he fought as long as he could, until his body had nothing left to give, but he never lost his spirit. He was 60 years old.

Greg was born in Jackson, MI. He was the first-born child of James and Deloris Jahnke. After HS graduation in 1982 in Mancelona, MI he served in the U.S. Air Force, as active duty and in the reserves. He retired from trucking after over 20 years of service.

Greg was a lifetime believer and supporter of participating in community groups such as parents of children with disabilities, serving as a road captain in his local Harley chapter, and being a motorcycle safety instructor, to name a few.

Greg had a lifetime love affair with music and found true joy in live shows. He loved good food, both cooking and eating! He loved to read, both fiction and non-fiction, from Stephen King to political biographies. He was passionate about motorcycles, cars, and big trucks from mechanics to drag races. Lastly, and arguably most importantly, he loved his family, not just his family by blood but the community of people whose lives he touched.

Greg is survived by his parents James and Deloris, two of his children Sarah Crow and Theodore Jahnke, his siblings Karen, Stacy, Dena, Pam, John, Doug, Adrienne, and Amanda. As well as far too many nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles to name. He was preceded in death most notably by his twin sons Anthony and Andrew Jahnke.

For those who would like to join his family in saying goodbye there will be an open memorial service at the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes on June 29, 2024. Visitation starts at 10am, followed by the memorial service at 11am.  For those unable to attend the memorial service in person, it will also be livestreamed via Zoom:
