Grace Sleep

GRACE "JO" SLEEP, 90, of Lansing, and Bellaire, passed away peacefully at her cottage in Bellaire on August 30, 2010. Jo was born on January 18, 1920 in Bellaire, the daughter of Rueben and Grace (Sewell) Eggleston. Jo graduated from Bellaire High School in 1937 then went on to attend Davenport College in Grand Rapids. She lived in Lansing for many years, but continued to summer in Bellaire. While living in Lansing she was employed for Schmidt's Brothers Grocery Store before retiring in 1982 after 20 years of employment. She enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling, boating and spending time at her cottage in Bellaire. On October 6, 1940 at Torch Lake, she married Voyle Sleep who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death was a sister Helen TenHoopen, a brother Bill Eggleston and her parents. She is survived by two children, MaryAnn (Dean) Burley of Lansing, Douglas Sr. (Jean) Sleep of St. John's, grandchildren Doug Jr., Dennis, Terri and Carol Sleep, Jennifer Fuller, Liz and Craig Brown, great-grandchildren Ben, Drew, Brad and Anthony Sleep, Hayden Brown, a sister Maxine Clark of Westland, MI., several brother and sister in laws and Aunt Jo to many related or not. Funeral services will take place on Friday, September 3, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at the Bellaire Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Visitation will be on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. also at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Antrim County Commission on Aging or to Hospice of Northwest Michigan. Arrangements are being handled by the Bellaire Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
