Gloria Jane Haskell, 94, of Traverse City, passed away on Saturday August 29th at the South Torch Lake Assisted Living facility in Rapid City, MI. She was born on April 22, 1926, in Detroit, MI the daughter of Lloyd and Elsie (Berg) Bargy. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter’s Church in Detroit MI. She grew up in Detroit and attended school there graduating from Cooley High School in January of 1944 and immediately went to work at Vickers, learning to be a comp operator. She met Robert E Haskell and he was a Merchant Marine for Standard Oil Co. His ship was stationed in New Jersey so she moved there and on July 11th, 1945, Gloria married Bob in New York City at The Little Church around the Corner. Gloria volunteered for the Red Cross rolling bandages. After the war ended they moved back to Detroit, where Bob worked for Ford and Gloria stayed home with their two children Mark and Robyn. She later went to work at UNISTRUT Corp in Wayne MI in the purchasing department. She was a member of the Eastern Star. She and Bob loved boating and she loved spending time on Torch Lake with her children and grandchildren.

Gloria moved to Traverse City in 2000 and spent the last 20 years living in her condo there. She lived on her own until this past June when her health started to decline.

Gloria was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E Haskell; her parents; her grandson Jeffrey L Haskell; her sister and brother-in-law and best friends Wanda E and Nolen L Cooper; her son-in-law, Paul VanColen.

Gloria is survived by her Son, Mark/Marshall (Jennifer) Haskell of Torch Lake and Robyn (Jim) Shank of Elk Rapids; a granddaughter, Jennifer (Jeff) Thompson, great-grandchildren, Mackenzie and Matthew Thompson. Brother-in-law, Stephen M Haskell and many nieces and nephews; her special friends and daughters of her sister Elaine, Lynn Cooper and Sharon (Don) Schmidt.

The family will be greeting visitors on Wednesday, September 2nd, from 5-8 PM at the Mortensen Funeral Home in Central Lake, MI. A Funeral Service will take place Thursday morning, at 10:30 a.m., also at Mortensen’s.

Memorial Donations may be made to Hospice of Michigan.
