Glenn D. Tarrant Jr. of Charlevoix, passed away at home on Friday, May 20, 2016. Glenn was 72 years old. Glenn was born on February 3, 1944, in Saginaw, Michigan to Glenn D. Sr. and Veronica (Allen) Tarrant.
As a youngster, Glenn played drums and percussion in the school band and graduated from Saginaw High School 1962. Most of his life, Glenn worked as a laborer and was a member of the Laborer's Union.
In 1964, Glenn married Margaret "Peggy" Murphy, and together had four children: Jeffrey, Rennie, and twins, Amy and Theresa.
In 1976, Glenn and Peggy moved their family from Saginaw to Indian River where they opened a cross country ski shop called Old Town Sports. Later, they added arcade games, and it became Old Town Sports and Amusement Center. This was a very special place for the young people in this small town and to the Tarrant family. All members of the Tarrant family established life long, significant friendships at this place and have remained friends even after Glenn and Peggy divorced in 1981 to present time.
In 1994, Glenn and Linda "Mickey" Houlden met at North Central Michigan College while both were taking Computer courses. They soon became a couple, and together they started a cleaning and maintenance business called Maid and Maintenance and operated it for ten years. Glenn and Linda made a life together for twenty-two years at Linda's home on Pincherry Road. Glenn loved the picturesque landscape of trees, rolling hills and several bodies of water that surrounded the local area. He and Linda enjoyed traveling, visiting neighbors, gardening and watching sunsets together at various local beaches. Glen passed away in the home he loved.
Glenn loved music, and nature. He could play the piano by ear, but his true musical passion was percussion. He often times made up silly little songs and rhymes about various things, especially the family dog. He is well known among his friends and family to play his car keys and the spoons to a song on the radio or a song he made up. He also loved to dance and was a very good dancer. Glenn was not a hunter but he loved animals and spending time hiking, camping and cross country skiing. Glenn passed on his passion for music, dancing and nature to his family.
Glenn is survived by long time companion, Linda Houlden; his children, Rennie Sequin of Howell, Amy Tarrant (Dominick Perrone) of Oak Park, and Theresa Tarrant (Michael Hoff) of Huntington Woods; grandchildren, Zachary, Emily, Paul, Seger, Samson, Elliot, Sydney, and Caleb; Linda's children, Claudia (Rob) Daniels of Boyne City, Walter (Sara) Houlden of South Boardman, Harry Houlden of Alaska; Glenn's brother, Gary Tarrant; nephews, Steve Tarrant and Jimmy King (who he called, “Best Friend”); nieces, Julie King, Jane Sadro, Patty Dutton Evon, and Catherine Cowell.
Glenn was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey Tarrant, who died in a motorcycle accident at age 20; his parents, Veronica Allen Tarrant and Glenn D. Tarrant Sr., and his sister Glenda.
Memorial Service for Glenn will be 12noon, Sunday, July 3, at Greensky Hill Church in Charlevoix. The Reverend Jonathan Mays will officiate.
