Geraldine Joy

Geraldine Lucille Joy, 100, of Charlevoix, formerly of Stanton, Michigan, passed away on March 21, 2019.

Geraldine was born on April 15, 1918 in Lansing, Michigan, the daughter of Ernest Lester Ashbaugh and Flossie Beatrice (Cogswell) Ashbaugh.  She was a graduate of Eastern High School in Lansing, class of 1937 and married George Martin Joy in 1939.  They moved their family to Stanton, Michigan in 1950 where they purchased AC Body Shop which they owned and operated until retirement.  Geraldine was the business manager.  Summers from 1954 to 2003 were spent at their cottage on Drummond Island, which they enjoyed with family and friends.  Geraldine was an avid golfer, golfing well into her 90’s.  She was an active member and held office in the Sterns Extension Club and the Stanton Women’s Club.  She was an artistic woman with oil painting being her favorite medium.  In 2003 she and her husband George relocated to Charlevoix.

Her husband George preceded her in death in 2004.  She is also preceded in death by her parents Ernest and Flossie, brother Ernest (Lucille DeArmand) Ashbaugh Jr., sisters Neomia (Leon) Daniels, Mona Jean (Loren) Lorenzen, and Carol Ann (Harold) Miller.

Surviving her are three sons, Dr. Dennis Martin (Karen Laine) Joy of Charlevoix, Michigan; Donald Michael (Anne Zimmer) Joy of Tucson, Arizona, and Daniel Marvin Joy of El Cerito, California.   Also surviving Geraldine are grandchildren Dennis Martin (Allison Bell) Joy II of Charlevoix, Michigan; Kirsten Marie (J. Scott) Cochran of Midland, Michigan, and Jeffrey Michael (Melissa Wood) Joy of Dexter, Michigan.  Great grandchildren are Austin Scott Cochran, Brooke Laine Cochran, Cameron James Cochran, Augustus George Joy, and Josephine Pearl Joy, along with eighteen loving nieces and nephews.

A memorial gathering will be held Saturday, June 8, 2019 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at Simpson Family Funeral Homes.  225 W. Cedar Street, Stanton, Michigan 48888.
