Gerald "Gerry" Torsch

Gerald “Gerry” Marvin Torsch, of Lakes of the North, passed away on Monday, July 1, 2019 at his home surrounded by loved ones.  He was born on June 15, 1940 in Ann Arbor, MI, the son of Marvin and Katherine (Mueller) Torsch.

In the summer of 1961, he met a young woman named Janet Swope.  Two months after they met, he asked for her hand in marriage. She agreed, and they wed on January 6, 1962 at St. John the Baptist Church in Ypsilanti, MI.  Gerry worked at Chrysler for 30 years, and they raised their son together in South Lyon before retiring to Lakes of the North in 1996.

The love of Gerry’s life was his grandchildren and great grandchildren.  He also enjoyed bowling, cooking over the fire, and spending time in the front yard with his family.  He could often be found playing Euchre or Hand-and-Foot. He was also a proud member of the Independent Order of Oddfellows - where he earned the honor of “Oddfellow of the Year” in 2012- as well as the UAWCIO.

Gerry is survived by his wife; a son, Mark (Julie) Torsch of Howell, MI; two grandsons, Jacob (Andrea) Torsch of Fenton, and Joshua (fiance Sarah) Torsch of Ann Arbor; and two great granddaughters, Grace, and Faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and an infant son, Johnathan Craig Torsch.
