Gerald "Jack" Mahoney

Gerald “Jack” Mahoney, 82, of Bellaire, passed away October 28, 2023 at Meadowbrook Medical Care Facility.  He was born October 13, 1941 in Detroit to Lloyd and Hazel (Carson) Mahoney. 

Jack moved to Bellaire around age 12 when his parents purchased a local resort on Intermediate Lake called “Recreation Point” where he helped his dad tear down and rebuild several cottages during his adolescent years.  Jack graduated from Bellaire High School. 

Jack worked for Ford Motor Company as a Tool and Die maker, and in his spare time he enjoyed boating.  Jack owned a boat which he docked on the Detroit River, and reflected fondly of spending time on the water with his children fishing.  He enjoyed casting a line into the water while living at Meadowbrook during their Friday fishing activity. 

Surviving Jack are his children Jeri (Mark) Koppelo of Commerce Township, MI, and Todd (Robin) Mahoney of Auburn Hills, MI, grandchildren Madison (Fiancé Chris) Koppelo of Grand Rapids, and Jake Koppelo of Commerce Township, MI, his first wife Retha Smith of Bellaire and Florida.  He was preceded in death by his second wife, Dorothy Mahoney. 

A gathering of family and friends will be held Sunday, November 12 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the VFW at Airport Rd and M 59.
