Gerald L. Hollis, age 68 of Bellaire passed away on January 20, 2018 at his home.
Gerald was born on January 4, 1950 in Dearborn, MI to the late George and Althea (Swayze) Hollis. His military service spanned over 30 years. He was active United States Air Force for 7 years and later reenlisted in the United States Armed Forces with a tour during Desert Storm and special missions to Nicaragua and Panama. As a United States Army Reservist he was last assigned to the 323rd General Hospital retiring as a Chief Warrant Officer (CW4). He retired from Ford Motor Company as a Tool and Die Maker in 2009.
Gerald was a member of the South Torch Lake Fire Department, Alden United Methodist Church and Snowflake Spiritualist Camp, and an active member of the Elk Rapids AMVETS. He joined the Fraternal Order of Free and Accepted Masons in Spokane, Washington Tyrian Lodge #96 in 1975, and was a member of the Bellaire Masonic Lodge #398, Spokane Grand Lodge, Saladin Temple Northwest Shrine Club, Order of Eastern Star Waldo Chapter #180, York Rite Bodies of the Royal Arch Masonry of Michigan Iosco Chapter #83 and Mackinaw Chapter #134, Sunrise Council #93, Cheboygan Commandery #50, as well as a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason Valley of Grand Rapids and Traverse City.
He enjoyed spending his free time riding his motorcycles (especially his Harley), spending time with his family and friends and anything outdoors.
On October 7, 1988 in Wayne, MI he married Norma Hamelink who survives. He is also survived by his children, Martha (Jeffrey) Baum of Willis, MI, Benjamin Hollis of Bellaire, Bradley Hollis of Gregory, MI, Jonathan Fraser of Richmond, VA; brother, Gary (Katheryn White) Hollis of Brooklyn, MI; sister-in-law, Karen Hollis of Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren, Mitchell, Jacob, Ian, James and great grandson, Lukas Mitchell along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, father and mother-in-law, Peter and Edna Hamelink and brother George Hollis.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Alden United Methodist Church with Rev. Daniel Biteman and Rev. Pat Crawford officiating. Interment will take place at Helena Township Cemetery at a later date.
