George Light Jr., 94, of Norwood, died Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2016 at his home with his family by his side.
He was born January 31, 1922 in Norwood to George and Faye (Wagner) Light.
George was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Army in the European theater in France. After his discharge he remained in France for one year to shut down the military depot. He was awarded the Croix de Guerre bronze star by the French government.
George married Barbara Butler on March 13, 1948 in Detroit, and they made their home in Norwood. Barbara died in 1994. George married Marion Shea on May 26, 1996 in Norwood where they made their home.
George owned and operated the East Jordan Lumber Company for many years. He enjoyed fishing and being outside in nature.
Surviving are his wife Marion; daughters Christine (Dale) Reedy of Ellsworth, Georgia (Walter) Beck of Norwood; step-children Stuart (Cecilia) Shea of Chicago, John (April) Shea of Ellicott, MD, Thomas Shea of Chicago; 4 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren; a sister Helen (William) Stevens of Charlevoix.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at the Norwood United Methodist Church with the Rev. Craig Pahl officiating.
