George S. Anton, 91, of Mancelona, passed away on August 6, 2018 at his home.
George was born on April 14, 1927, in Detroit, the son of William and Martha (Januszewski) Anton.
George was a longtime member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Mancelona and loved the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, camping and archery. He also enjoyed drawing as well as electronics.
He proudly served in the U.S. Army as a corporal during the Korean War.
On May 14, 2005, in Mancelona, he married Janice Coon (Oakley) who survives. Also surviving are 4 children, Robert (Lex) Anton of West Bloomfield, Craig Anton (Deb Bousho) of Macomb Twp., Sandy (Paul) Troia of Attica, Lynette Anton of Oxford, 2 grandsons, Robbie (Silan) Anton of Waterford, Ryan Anton of West Bloomfield, 4 great-grandchildren, 4 step-children, Annette (George) Voelker of Alba, Anita Moore (Gary Keller) of Bellaire, Joe (Rachel) Dilling of Dayton, OH, Kim Wilkinson (Henry Fries) of Gillette, WY, a brother, William Anton of Gaylord, sister Pat (Larry) Leveron of Gaylord and several step grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Marie Anton, 2 sisters, Irene Oliver, Helen Tobin, a sister-in-law Lois Anton, brother-in-law Al Oliver, well as his parents.
Visitation will be on Thursday from 5-6:30 p.m. at the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes with a Rosary beginning at 6:30.
Funeral Mass will take place on Friday, August 10, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Mancelona, with Fr. Chet Collins officiating.
Interment with military honors will follow in St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery in Mancelona.
