Gene Case

Gene W. Case, 83 of Elmira, died peacefully, June 10, 2013 at Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility in Bellaire. He was born April 9, 1930, in Pontiac, the son of Melvin L. and Mabel (Sweet) Case. He grew up around Pontiac and enjoyed playing baseball. He even tried out for the New York Yankee's when he was 18, only to end his career after a broken ankle. Gene was a member of the White Lake Presbyterian Church and an assistant Scout Master for many years. He was also a Neighbor Commissioner with the Boy Scouts. Gene continued his love of baseball playing in various leagues for many years of his life. Gene worked for over 30 years at Pontiac Motors and proudly retired from there. In retirement he perfected his carpentry skills building many homes for others and even his own. He also took time to read and do puzzles and watch his beloved Tigers along with many other sports. He also spent many years on the Alba School Board and supporting the Alba School system. On July 3, 1954, in Dryden, he married the love of his life, Louise Ann Donnelly who survives. Also surviving are his children Carolyn Bowen of Mancelona, David (Donna) Case of Highland, Tina (Mark) Pirch of Parma, Ross Case of Monroe, Jean (Robert) Marsh of Alba, Loretta (Scott) Hall of Davisburg, brother Chester (Helen) Case of PA, sister Annette Foster of Oxford, 15 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his grandson Joshua Marsh and sisters Marilyn and Mavis. Private family services have been held. Memorial contributions can be made to the Alba Public Schools.
