Garland P. Russell, 94 of Echo Twp died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013 at his home.
He was born August 8, 1918 in Echo Twp. the son of Ernest W. and Lillie M (Murray) Russell.
On June 30, 1946 he married Elsie Herington in Echo Twp and made their home in Kewadin. They moved to Detroit in 1952 and then to Ellsworth in 1958 and later moved to Echo Twp. Mrs. Russell died in 1965.
Mr. Russell joined the Civilian Conservation Corp in the 1930s. He was a veteran of WWII serving with the US Army Air Corp in the Pacific.
He was a truck driver most of his working life and was employed by the East Jordan Iron Works for many years.
Mr. Russell enjoyed reading, studying the Bible and working with his Ford tractor.
Surviving are his children; Gordon (Sally) Russell of Bellaire, Charlotte (William) McArthur and Raymond (Cathy) Russell both of East Jordan, 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded by a granddaughter Amber Dixon, a sister Ilo Hartman and brothers Marvin Russell and Leslie Russell.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013 at 1:00 PM at the Pleasant Valley Free Methodist Church with Rev. Michael Breimer officiating. Friends may call at the Hastings Funeral Home in Ellsworth Monday from 5 to 8.
Burial will be in Dunsmore Cemetery in Echo Twp., MI
