Fritz Hizelberger

Fritz J. Hizelberger, 97, of Ellsworth, died Thursday, February 26, 2015 at Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility in Bellaire where he was lovingly cared for.

He was born August 31, 1917 in Mannheim, Germany to Karl and Elizabeth (Ochsmen) Hizelberger. The family came to the United States in 1922.

On December 7, 1946 he married Carol Jean Everett in Hanover, Michigan and they made their home in Dearborn. In 1971 they moved to Ellsworth. Carol died October 9, 1971.

On May 12, 1979 he married Barbara Berwald in Grand Haven where they made their home. Barbara died September 10, 1991.

Fritz worked at Ford Motor Co. in Dearborn and later Tishkin Roll Design in Detroit, Morweld Steel in Ellsworth, and Shape Corp. in Grand Haven. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golf, reading and collecting rocks.

Surviving are his children, Jean Alward of Ellsworth, Karl (Susan) Hizelberger of The Villages, Fla., Mark (Jennifer) Hizelberger of Lake Orion, Joan (Max) Bolser, and Paul (Irene) Hizelberger of Ellsworth; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister Emma Bozinoff of Wasilla, Alaska.

The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, March 2, 2015 at Hastings Funeral Home in Ellsworth with the Rev. David Kroon officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Ellsworth Cemetery.
