Frederick W. Bernecker, 83, of Mancelona, passed away on May 18, 2019 at his home.
Fred was born on November 24, 1935,in Americus, GA, the son of Frederick and Queenie (Brown) Bernecker.
Fred served his country honorably in the U.S. Marine Corps where he drove transport vehicles for the soldiers. Following the military, he drove truck for the Yellow Freight Company for many years.
He enjoyed fishing, stock car racing, drawing, woodworking, writing poems and morel mushroom hunting.
He is survived by 5 children, Su-Ann Gramling of St. Charles, Bob (Sherri) Sutherby of TN, Russ (Sherry) Sutherby of Mancelona, Robin (Jeff) Babinger of Montrose, Billie (Jim) Sherriff of Mancelona, many cherished grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Mabel “Sue” Bernecker, a son Guy Bernecker, 2 sisters, Betty and Billie Jean, a brother Bob as well as his parents.
Funeral services will take place on Thursday, May 23, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Visitation will be from noon until the time of services also at the funeral home.
Burial with military honors will immediately follow services at Fairview Cemetery, Mancelona.
