Faye Maxine Bergmann, 90, passed away October 17, 2018 at the Charlevoix Hospital following a brief illness. Maxine was born July 24, 1928 to Oral and Lola (Hinshaw) Lewis in Charlevoix, and was a lifelong resident of Charlevoix. Following graduation from Charlevoix High School, she attended Michigan State University and returned to marry her high school sweetheart Eugene Bergmann, also of Charlevoix. Together they raised four children: Tom (Jody) Bergmann, Jeanne (Bill) Eaton, Jeffrey (Terry) Bergmann, and Carol (Jerry) Murdick, all of the Charlevoix area.
With her children in school, Maxine worked for ten years at the High School library. She was a lifelong member of the First Congregational Church, leading into 30 years of selfless volunteer work with the Charlevoix Food Pantry.
Maxine was preceded in death by her husband Eugene, two brothers, Russell Lewis, and Jim Lewis, a sister, Lorna Lewis, and several brother and sister in-laws. She is survived by her four children, a sister Beth (Tony) Mulac of Traverse City, sister-in-law Lois Lewis of Charlevoix, brother in-law Al Bergmann of Charlevoix, and five very loved grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
A Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 21, 2018 at the First Congregational Church, 201 State Street, Charlevoix, Michigan 49720 with Pastor Greg Briggs officiating. Memorial contributions may be directed to the First Congregational Church at 201 State Street, Charlevoix, MI 49720 or the Charlevoix Food Pantry at 100 W. Hurlbut, Charlevoix, MI 49720.
