Evalyn Fleet

Evalyn J. Fleet, 93, of St. Johns, passed away on October 28, 2018 at Grace Haven Assisted Living.  Evalyn’s family was of German descent. She was born on December 7, 1924 at home in Volinia, MI, to Frank and Dorothy (Gray) Brown.  She and her older brother, Melvin Brown, attended country school.  Evalyn graduated from Western State Normal School in Kalamazoo and taught one year in a country school near Volinia.  In 1947 she married Milo C. Fleet in Volinia.  They settled in Alma, MI to raise their family of four children.  Evalyn worked in retail and put all four of her children through college.  After 30 years, Milo and Evalyn retired to Mancelona, MI.

Her family meant everything to her.  She is survived by four children, Sally (James) Harrington of Portage, MI, Merlyn “Zeke” (Mary) Fleet of Traverse City, Linda (Gary) Travis of St. Johns, David (Beth Lowe) Fleet of Swartz Creek, MI, nine grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Dorothy Brown, her brother Melvin, and husband Milo C. Fleet in 1999.

A graveside memorial service will take place on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery, Mancelona.   A luncheon will follow services.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Mancelona Senior Center.

Arrangements are being handled by the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
