Eva Wendling

Eva Renate Wendling, of Manistique, Michigan, passed away at the Heritage Haus Assisted Living facility in Bellaire, Michigan, on June 7, 2018.  Eva was born on April 12, 1929 in Breslau, Germany; near the end of WWII, she moved to Frankfurt, where she met and married her first husband while attending university.  In 1953, the couple immigrated to the United States, initially settling in New York before moving to Detroit in 1955, where she worked for several years as a chemistry quality control technician while her husband completed his medical residency.

Following a divorce from her first husband, Eva married Dr. Dieter Wendling, in 1963.  The couple lived in Bloomfield Hills while Eva managed the business and office affairs for her husband’s medical practice in the Detroit area, until they both retired to Manistique, in 1989.  Eva and Dieter loved living along the shores of Lake Michigan, always accompanied by a variety of cats and dogs, as well as many of their friends from the Detroit area who shared their love of the U.P.  Eva was an animal lover at heart, and actively supported the local animal shelter.  She was an avid reader, with a keen wit and tremendous intellect that she regularly applied when playing bridge at the local senior center.

Eva is survived by three of her four children, four stepchildren, and numerous grandchildren.  Dieter preceded her in death.

Memorial services will be held at the Lakeview Cemetery in Bellaire, Michigan, on June 23, 2018.  In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to St. Luke’s Catholic Church, or Help From My Friends’ Pet Crisis Center, in Bellaire.

Arrangements have been handled by the Bellaire Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.  Please sign her online guestbook www.mortensenfuneralhomes.com.
