Gene Schust Steele, 80 of Charlevoix, MI passed away on February 11, 2017 at his home.
He was born on June 7, 1936 in Saginaw, MI to the late Rex and Leah Steele. He served in Korea. He attended Hillsdale College and later graduated from Michigan State University.
He had been a Charlevoix resident since 1970 and he was in the business of real estate as both a realtor and broker for 45 years. Having owned his own company, Charlevoix Properties in the 1970s and 80s. Gene retired last year from the business he loved and he often spoke of the many friends that he had come to know as a result.
Gene is survived by his wife of 53 years, Barbara; two sons, Michael and Charles; brother Rex (Judy) Steele and step brother Bill Coolidge.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and step brother John Coolidge.
Gene loved sailing especially in the Bahamas and West Indies. He was an avid golfer, automotive enthusiast, and with Barbara toured throughout the United States by motor home.
Gene's wish was to have his ashes scattered on waves of Lake Michigan. There will be a plan for this farewell this summer.
