Eugene Dewey

EUGENE A. DEWEY 80, of Mancelona, died on June 5, 2009 at Munson Medical Center. Gene was born on August 17, 1928 in Bellaire, the son of Charles and Emily (Hudcoskey) Dewey. Gene was a Mancelona resident since 1992 and was a member of the North Star Masonic Lodge # 354 in Eastport. He was a 32nd degree mason, a northwest shriner and was a member of the Eastern Star. He enjoyed bear and raccoon hunting as well as dancing. He was employed by the Secretary of State office in Traverse City and Petoskey for many years and served as undersheriff in Antrim County. He is survived by 5 children, Susan (Wally Geiersbach) Sumampow of Saginaw, Chuck (Diana) Dewey of Mancelona, Butch (Coke) Dewey of Bellaire, Linda Dewey of Traverse City, Nancy (Gary) Slabosz of Bellaire, 2 sisters, Maxine Johnson of Bellaire, Elaine (Leonard) Dawson of Bellaire, 8 grandchildren, Renee, Rich, Dan, Andrew, Marissa, Katelyn, Zhanna, Rianna, 4 great-grandchildren, Devin, Anna, Sophie, Bryton and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents. Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at One p.m. at the Bellaire Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Pastor David Wood will officiate. Private interment will take place following services in Fairview Cemetery, Custer Township. Visitation will take place on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. also at the funeral home.
