ERNEST C. "BILL" GRODY 85, of Mancelona, died on Saturday, March 31, 2007 at his home. Ernest was born on April 4, 1921 in Mancelona, the son of Ervin C. and Cohly M. (Henderson) Grody. He was a lifelong resident of Mancelona where he owned and operated Grody Roofing, was a part owner in the Nestle and Grody Gamble store and was a past member of the Mancelona VFW Post and the American Legion. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II and enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, traveling and gardening. On October 17, 1947 in Mancelona, he married Frances A. Deater who survives. Also surviving are five children, Bonnie (Harold) Musall of Alden , Roger Grody of Mancelona , Tootie (Tom) Mahone of Grand Rapids , Beatrice Grody and Tony Napont of Boyne City , Brenda Grody and Don Reuther of Mancelona , ten grandchildren, Norman, Salina, Eric, Shannon, Christa, Kailee, Scott, Corina, Will, Ed, 11 great grandchildren, six siblings, Eileen (Lee) Hubbard, of Mancelona, Dorothy (Harry) Richards of Mancelona, Don (Esther) Grody of Mancelona, Howard (Shirley) Grody of Mancelona, Shirley Weiss of Mancelona, Gordon (Billi) Grody of East Jordan and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Sylvia and Maxine, three brothers, Robert, Veril and Wayne and a grandson Kyle Grody. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, April 4, 2007 at Two p.m. at the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Louis Scholl will officiate. Interment will take place in Fairview Cemetery, Mancelona. Visitation will take place on Tuesday from 2-8 p.m. also at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Mercy Hospice.
