Emmett Lee Burley, 71, of Mancelona, passed away December 15, 2012 surrounded by his family. Emmett was born on June 29, 1941 in Mancelona, the son of Emmett and Berneda Burley. Emmett graduated from Mancelona High School in 1959 and then was drafted into the Army and proudly served his country for four years. He enjoyed the outdoors, wildlife and especially working in his yard. He also enjoyed traveling, NASCAR, golfing and hanging out with his family which was his pride and joy. As he always said "its five o'clock somewhere!" On February 6, 1971 in Mancelona, he married the love of his life Judy (Grody) Burley. He is also survived by his children, Monaca (Thomas) Laskey of Traverse City, Heather (Wes) Torrey of Traverse City, and Shawn (Alanna) Burley of Mancelona; brother, Roger (Joan) Burley of Spring Lake; sisters, Joyce (Thurman) McCarty of Mancelona and Beverly McCarty of Casper, WY; grandchildren, Jessica, Ariel, Taylor, Emilee, Carlee, Shaylia, Terry Dean, Vincent, Jordan, Lily, Isiac, Annabelle and Sunny; two great-grandchildren, Urijah and Finnley; several nieces, nephews and special friends. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes with Pastor Mark McCool officiating. The family will have a private burial immediately following the services. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. also at the funeral home.
