Elsie Marie Joyce age 94 peacefully passed away on June 5, 2017 at New Heights Assisted Living in Clarkston Michigan.
Elsie was born June 29, 1922 in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of Orville and Marie Hilton. At 3 years old, she moved to Charlevoix and grew up on the family farm.
She attended Hilton country school through the 8th grade, which is now the Bier Art Gallery on US 31. She was a graduate of Charlevoix High School, class of 1940. The following year she attended Lansing Business University in Lansing, Michigan. After graduating from LBU, she worked in the office at Atlas Drop Forge Company.
While growing up in Charlevoix, she joined the Barnard Grange, was active in the 4-H Clothing & Canning Club as well as two years raising calves to be in the Dairy Calf Club.
On April 20, 1946, Elsie married Peter L. Joyce and they lived in Pontiac, Michigan, until May of 1977, at which time they moved to Charlevoix on the corner of the family farm where they built their first home. Pete always had a big garden and Elsie canned and froze their winter food.
Elsie’s faith was her pride and joy. She was an active member of the Charlevoix Church of God, volunteering wherever needed. In later years she helped with the Lighthouse lunches served Mondays and Thursdays.
Elsie is survived by her children: Dennis Joyce and Alta Walker, daughter-in-Law: Brenda (Don) Joyce, grandchildren: Jennifer Braun and Michael Joyce Great-grandchildren: Abigail Braun and Caroline Braun.
Her parents (Orville & Marie Hilton), husband (Peter L. Joyce), and son (Donald Joyce) preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at the Charlevoix Community Church of God, 202 W Hurlbut Ave with Pastor Neil Turner officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 9, 2017 from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. at the Winchester Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.

Elsie loved the Lord Jesus Christ with all her heart, soul and mind. Her greatest desire is to meet you all in Heaven.
