Elmer Johnson

ELMER R. JOHNSON 81, of Bellaire, formerly of Mancelona and Central Lake, died Saturday, July 28, 2007 at Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility in Bellaire. He was born May 2, 1926 in Central Lake, the son of Duane and Corene (Rushton) Johnson. He served in the US Army during WWII in the European Theatre where he was awarded the Bronze Star. Elmer was a carpenter all of his working life and served on the Central Lake Fire Department for 20 years. He was a member of the Torch Post VFW #6985, the North Star Masonic Lodge and the Mancelona Moose Lodge. Surviving are two sons, William R. (Donna) Johnson of Central Lake, Robert E. Johnson of Bellaire, a sister Esther (Frank) Novotny of Bellaire, two grandchildren, Matt and Kari Johnson of Central Lake, many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Versil and Carl and a sister Ardith Spoelman. Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 1, 2007 at the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes, Rev. Dave Scott officiating. Interment was in Lakeview Cemetery, Torch Lake Twp. Memorial contributions may be made to Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility.
