Elmer Grody, 93, of Mancelona, passed away on May 10, 2018 at Munson Hospice House.
Elmer was born on September 23, 1924, in Mancelona, the son of Elmer and Emma (Gesiger) Grody.
Elmer was a part of the Signal Corps in the U.S. Army during World War II. He arrived on the second day of the Normandy Invasion on Omaha Beach.
He was employed as a tool and die maker for Standard Products in Gaylord for many years. He was very involved in the Mancelona Community where he was a member of the Mancelona Fire Department for 51 years as well as many years as the Ambulance driver.
On August 8, 1953, in Traverse City, he married Marian Johnson who survives. Also surviving are 4 children, Ronald (Carol) Grody of Belding, MI, Bonnie Alimonda of Mancelona, Larry (Carolyn) Grody of Mancelona, Rick (Carolyn) Grody of Mancelona as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Virginia Doerr as well as his parents.
Graveside services with military honors will be held on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery in Mancelona.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Mancelona Fire Department.
Arrangements are being handled by the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
