Ellen McConnell

Ellen Irene McConnell, 87, of West Branch, formerly of Ellsworth, died Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at Bortz Health Care in West Branch.

She was born May 6, 1927 in Pellston to Joseph and Sarah (Boyer) Barraw.

On December 24, 1946 she married Eugene McConnell in Weidman, Michigan. They moved to Banks Township in 1952. Eugene died December 19, 2003.

Irene worked on assembly at Mt. Clemens, Gulf & Western and Dura. She enjoyed baking, canning, gardening and being with her family.

Surviving are her children Judy (Jim) Van Loo of Boyne Falls, Josie (Jim) Aenis of Jacksonville, Florida, Jean (John) Jurgensen of Gladwin, Allen (Patsy) McConnell of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, and Janet (Scott) Tinsley of Thompson's Station, Tennessee; 12 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; brother Harold (Fay) Barraw of East Jordan; sisters Beverly (Keith) Mort of Central Lake and Karen (Larry) Pruitt of Central Lake; and sister-in-law Wanda Barraw of Central Lake. She was preceded in death by brothers Robert Barraw, Charles Barraw, Kenneth Barraw and Howard Barraw, and by grandson Joshua Benjamin Tripp.

Friends may call at Hastings Funeral Home in Ellsworth from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, September 12 at Ellsworth Wesleyan Church with the Rev. Chris Wallace officiating. Burial will be in Ellsworth Cemetery.
