Ellen Mackenzie

Ellen M. Mackenzie, 84, of Kalkaska, passed away on January 24, 2014 at Kalkaska Memorial Health Center Long Term Care. Ellen was born on March 25, 1929, in Pittsburgh, PA, the daughter of Andrew and Edith (Hutchinson) Zitzman. Ellen enjoyed singing to anyone that would listen, making needlepoint crosses, writing poetry, family newsletters and even short plays for school and church events. Her home, and especially, her porch were a place where friends, family and neighbors gathered to enjoy her sense of humor. She is survived by 3 children, Marilyn (Jim) Williamson of Cincinnati, OH, Carol (David) Williams of Midland and Alden, MI, Karen Mackenzie of Rapid City, MI, a sister-in-law Mary Zitzman of Knoxville, TN, a daughter-in-law Ericka Mackenzie of Pittsburgh, PA, a son-in-law Gordon Day of Rapid City, MI 9 grandchildren, Derek, Bridgette, Harry, Erin, Shannon, Christopher, Nicholas, Heather and Megan as well as 7 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Harry, a son Harry "Billy", 3 sisters, Sarah Lambert, Florence Chilton, Ruth Lavery, 2 brothers, James and Andrew Zitzman, a half sister, Cecil Wilson, and her parents. Funeral services will take place on Monday, January 27 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bellaire Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Visitation will be on Sunday from 5-8 p.m. also at the funeral home. Burial will be in Clearwater Township Cemetery in the spring. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
