Elizabeth M. "Betty" Bogart, 91, of Charlevoix, passed away Wednesday, May 20, 2015, at Fulton Manor in Grand Rapids. She was born September 3, 1923, in Lansing to Thomas F. and Ruth A. (Welcher) Guernsey. Betty moved to Charlevoix in 1940 and graduated from Charlevoix High School in 1942. On February 13, 1943, Betty married Donald L. Bogart in East Lansing. They made their home in Charlevoix, and Betty worked as a nurse's aid at the Charlevoix Area Hospital from 1969 until 1987. She was a member of the Charlevoix United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and was past President of the United Methodist Women. She was a member of the American Legion Leslie T. Shapton Post #226 Auxiliary and served in its Color Guard. She is survived by her sons, Edmund G. and Richard L. (Sheila)of Charlevoix; daughters, Nancy Bogart (Gary) Thorpe of Austin, Tex., Betty L. (James) Bishaw of Charlevoix, Ruth A. Johnson of Grand Rapids; eight grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; brother, Arden J. Guernsey of Albuquerque, N. Mex.; sisters Luella M. (Jerry) Browne of San Diego, Calif. Betty's husband Don preceded her in death on September 27, 1992. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Lyle and Richard, and sister, Eldene Miller. Visitation will be from 6-8 pm, Sunday, June 7, at the Winchester Funeral Home in Charlevoix where the funeral will be 1 pm, Monday, June 8. Betty's granddaughter, The Reverend Suzette Thorpe-Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in the Brookside Cemetery in Charlevoix. Memorial contributions may be made to the Charlevoix Area Hospital or to the United Methodist Church.
