Elizabeth “Betty” Brooks Hoffmann, 90, of Charlevoix, passed away on January 23, 2022. She was born on July 30, 1931 in Antrim City, MI, the daughter of Alfred and Marion (Gardner) Brooks.

Betty worked as an elementary school teacher for over 40 years, spending the majority of her tenure in the Charlevoix school system. She was a devoted member of the Barnard United Methodist Church, and previously the Norwood United Methodist Church. She was dedicated to preserving the natural beauty of Northern Michigan, donating hundreds of hours of her time over the years. She was involved with the Antrim Creek Natural Area, the Hoffmann Preserve in Charlevoix, the Banks Township Historical Society, along with many other projects in the area. Betty also enjoyed birdwatching and researching her family ancestry.
Betty is survived by her nephew, Fred (Cindy) Brooks of Charlevoix, and her niece, Ginny (Brad) Petrie of East Jordan.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter Francis Hoffmann; her brother, William Brooks; and her niece, Sally Grutsch.
Betty will be laid to rest next to Walter at Brookside Cemetery in Charlevoix in the Spring of 2022.
