Elaine Smith

Elaine Rosalie (Peters) Smith passed away peacefully at her home June 1, 2015. She was born January 19, 1936, in Charlevoix to Daniel and Elizabeth (Smith) Peters, and graduated from Charlevoix High School in 1953. In high school she began working for Rexall Drug Store. It was there she met John W. Smith who would stop by at lunch for a soda. They were married in 1956. Elaine continued to work at Rexall for over fifty years until she retired in 2007. She was dedicated to her work and loved the energy of her community and its people - she was a caring, giving person. Elaine was a member of the Barnard Grange, Pamona Grange, United Methodist Women, and the Charlevoix United Methodist Church. She enjoyed band concerts in East Park, hummingbirds, flowers and garage sales. She always had a smile or quip to keep her kids and grandkids in line. She loved watching her grandkids play sports and participate in marching band. Elaine was dedicated to her family and was already in heaven everytime they came to visit. Elaine is survived by her daughters, Susan (Richard) Louiselle, Anne (Alan) Petrie, and Lisa Smith Herriman; grandchildren, Kyle (Catherine) Louiselle, Connor (Danielle Brian) Louiselle, Wesley (Jackie Haley) Petrie, Colin Petrie; Coby, Jacy and Skylar Herriman; sister, Evelyn (Peters) Wujcik; brother, Clarence (Rantz) Peters; niece, Wladzia (Eric) Berarducci; nephew, Wally (Carley) Wujcik. She was preceded in death by John, her husband of 42 years and her grandson Cody Johnathen Louiselle. Visitation 5-8 pm, Thursday, June 4, at the Charlevoix United Methodist Church, and from 11 am, Friday until the time of the funeral at 1 pm, followed by burial at Brookside Cemetery.
