Elaine "Jo" Moir

Elaine "Jo" Moir,  74, of Custer Township, passed away on December 19, 2023 at Munson Medical Center.

  Jo was born on February 14, 1949, in Cadillac, MI, the daughter of Duane and Marjorie (Stiers) Bergey.

   She worked at Gulf and Western for many years, owned and operated Jo's Jewelry and Gifts out of her home and was our local Avon Representative for many years.  She also attended St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mancelona.

   Her favorite things to do were traveling, especially on the motorcycle through the Upper Peninsula and made several trips to Copper Harbor.   She also enjoyed sewing, crocheting, reading, an avid sports fan, especially the Detroit Lions and all the sporting events her son Mike competed in, throughout his high school career.  Above all, she loved her family and spending time with them as much as she could.

   On March 29, 1980, in Mancelona, she married Herbert G. Moir who survives.   Also surviving are a son Michael (April) Kooistra of Lula, GA, 3 grandchildren, Justin Berry, Cheyenne Kooistra, Shawn Kooistra, a brother Roger (Peggy) Bergey of Mancelona, 2 sisters, Jenise (Ken) Root of Kalkaska, Jacki (Burr) Saxton of Cadillac, MI and several nieces and nephews.

   She was preceded in death by a sister Judy Bergey and her parents.

   A graveside service will take place on Friday, May 10, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapman Cemetery, Custer Township.

   Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude Children's Hospital Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl., Memphis, TN,  38105 or to the Salvation Army, 615 Slaters Lane, Alexandria,  VA,  22314.
