Erwin Gene Holecheck

Erwin Gene Holecheck, 86, of Charlevoix, passed away on April 9, 2022 at the Petoskey AFC Home. He was born on January 29, 1936, in Charlevoix, MI, the son of Robert and Rosemae (Welch/Henry) Holecheck.

Erwin loved NASCAR, drag racing, Fords, and anything that was fast and loud. He had a passion for John Deere tractors and loved any kind of machinery. Erwin was a member of Fly Wheelers, and served on the Banks Township Fire Department for many years, including as fire chief. Erwin worked at Freedman Artcraft Engineering Corp. and later retired from there when it was Harbor Industries, Inc.  On Sundays, you could find Erwin at the Atwood Christian Reformed Church where he served as deacon and janitor. In the 1960’s, he had his own garbage route throughout the Atwood and Ellsworth area. Erwin was always a family man and loved spending time with his kids and grandkids.

On December 3, 1955, Erwin took Mary Lou’s hand in marriage at the Atwood Christian Reformed Church. Together they would go on to have three children residing in Atwood.

Erwin is survived by his three children; Pamela Holecheck of Fulton, MO, Randy Holecheck of Frederic, MI, Larry (Shelly) Holecheck of Charlevoix, MI, five grandchildren; Joshua, Jourdan, Jennaca, Cameron, Morgan, five great-grandchildren, Eben, Vivian, Willow, Cameron, Brady.

Proceeding Erwin in death are his parents and his loving wife.

Visitation will be held Thursday, April 14, from 6pm until 8pm at the Charlevoix Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.

A funeral service will be held Friday, April 15, at 1pm at the Charlevoix Chapel, with Pastor James Zwier officiating. Interment will follow the funeral service at Norwood Cemetery.

Memorial contributions in Erwin’s honor can be made to the Ellsworth Christian Reformed Church.
