Edward Francis Linse, 93, of Charlevoix, passed away on Monday, May 20, 2024 with his loving family at his side. He was born on March 11, 1931, in Chicago, IL, the son of Carl and Catherine (Hayes) Linse.
Ed graduated from high school in the Chicago area, and shortly thereafter began working for American Airlines as an airplane washer. After a short time, he decided to do something more, and enlisted in the United States Air Force. After twenty years, and three tours in Vietnam, he retired from the military on October 31, 1970 as a SMSgt. Upon returning to civilian life, he worked for Charter Cable for 20 years in the Charlevoix area.
Ed was a man who loved people, and loved to help them any chance he could. He could often be seen with his cherished dogs who went everywhere with him. He enjoyed his time spent visiting local businesses and eating breakfast with his friends. He also liked to fly RC airplanes and was a member of the Charlevoix Area Remote Control Buffs. Many students from St, Mary’s will also remember their beloved “Mr. Ed” from his time spent volunteering on the playground and in the lunchroom.
Ed is survived by four children, Pat Linse, Mike Linse, Marcia (Chris) Coffman, and Mark (Debbie) Linse; two brothers, Bob Linse and Jim Linse; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; several nieces & nephews; and dear friends, Mindy Joy & Beth Egler as well as many other friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Greg Linse; and two brothers, Carl Linse and Don Linse.
A funeral mass will take place at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, June 3, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Charlevoix. Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with a rosary at 5:30 on Sunday, June 2, at the Charlevoix Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic School, 1005 Bridge St., Charlevoix, MI 49720.
