Edgar Auger, 93, of Elk Lake, Rapid City, died September 27, 2009 at Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility. He was born April 26, 1916, in Thetford Mines, Quebec, Canada, the son of Ferdinand and Marie Louise (Bertrand) Auger. Edgar was an extremely knowledgeable and intelligent man who lived life to the fullest. He served his country during World War II by designing B-17 Bombers for the U.S. Air Force. As a long time employee at Ford motor company, he assisted in the development of the original Ford Mustang and came out of retirement to assist with the original production of the Ford Taurus. After his retirement as an executive, he and his wife of 71 years, Grace (Rivais), pursued their interest in travel and their love for Elk Lake. Edgar was a distinguished lifetime member of the Society of Automotive Engineers and Elk Lake Skegemog Lakes Association. He will be missed and is survived by his wife Grace, son Gerald (Kristine) Auger, daughter Dian (Jeffrey) Schubel, grandchildren Michael (Jill) Auger, Jennifer (David) Ringl, Adam (Stephanie) Schubel, Regan (Nicholas LaFontaine) Schubel, and 3 great grandchildren, Jessica, Sarah, and Michael Auger. There will be a memorial service and celebration of his life to be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be directed to Elk Skegemog Lakes Association, PO BOX 8, Elk Rapids, Michigan 49629. Arrangements have been handled by the Bellaire Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
