Duane Smith

Duane L. Smith, 80, of Ellsworth, died Monday, May 6, 2013 at his home.

He was born July 13, 1932 in Cadillac, Michigan, the son of Leonard and Elizabeth Heringa Smith.

On September 15, 1957 he married Mary Sutton in Central Lake. They made their home in East Jordan and moved to Banks Township in 2012.

Duane served in the U.S. Army during the Korean era.

He was employed at East Jordan Iron Works for 25 years. He enjoyed flying kites, riding bikes, gardening, looking for stones along Lake Michigan, listening to gospel music, cutting firewood, and watching Andy Griffith movies.

Surviving are his wife Mary; children Geri (Frank Brewster) Koshmider of Jackson, Randall Smith of Elmira, Kenneth Smith of Mancelona, Jimmy Smith of Ellsworth, Sherry Kelsey of Okemos, Sally Ruehle of Ellsworth; 6 grandchildren; a sister Edith (Richard) Baker of Wellston, brothers Arnold (Doris) Smith, Douglas (Colleen) Smith, and Gary Smith, all of Cadillac.

The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 9, at Hastings Funeral Home in Ellsworth with the Rev. Chris Wallace officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from noon until the time of the service. Burial will be in Ellsworth Cemetery.
